It’s finally the season for garden parties and outdoor soirées, and this year, as I celebrate my 40th birthday with a cocktail party in my back garden, I wanted to share the outfits I’ve lined up so far as possible ensembles for the big day! With the sun finally making an appearance (intermittently at least), there’s no better way to celebrate the season of weddings, picnics, events and al fresco evenings than with a few new summer dresses that make you feel great. I’ve firmly packed all of my winter coats and boots away in the loft and I’m embracing the season of floaty dresses, strappy sandals and wide brimmed hats!
Nobody’s Child dresses are a staple in my wardrobe for daywear or occasion dresses – and this Evelyn Midaxi dress is a summer must-have. The midaxi length and square neckline are so flattering, and the puff sleeves and A-line cut add that touch of feminity that’s very on trend this season. (I’m sure we have Bridgerton to thank for the resurgence of elegant details like empire waistlines, ruffles, frills and lace being everywhere this summer!) I’ve paired it with brown, chunky sandals from Clarks to add a bit of comfort and contrast.
I always think a playsuit combines laid-back comfort with a stylish silhouette; and I’m obsessed with this In The Style Stone Linen Belted Playsuit from Perrie Sian’s range. It’s made from a breathable linen blend so it will be ideal for hot, summer days in the garden and it’s honestly so comfortable, it’s a bit like wearing pajamas! The belted waist is super flattering and I love the balance of the cuffed long sleeves against the shorts. I’ve paired it with gold, strappy sandals (again, very on trend this season) to add a touch of glamour.
This River Island dress is absolutely my pick for a versatile piece that could be worn to a family picnic, festival or packed for a summer holiday (and such a steal at £45!) I adore the striped print and I think the shirred bodice and puff sleeves make it somehow laid-back but also super chic. The smock dress shape and lightweight fabric makes it so easy to wear – you’ll find me swishing around in this all summer!
My final pick is another River Island piece – I love anything that combines style with wearable functionality and this romper nails that trend, with a nod to that utility theme that’s ubiquitous right now (as well as drawstring waists!) Denim will always be in style in my eyes – I’ve paired it with a strappy sandal to jazz it up a little, I’d also add layered jewellery or switch the heels up for espadrille wedges to give it a beachy vibe.
