Discovering the Secret to Better Sleep: My Journey with the Simba Mattress Topper

I speak from experience when I say that achieving a restful night’s sleep can feel like an elusive goal amidst the chaos of childcare, work demands, and the pressures of daily life.  Despite trying various remedies like supplements, bedtime yoga, digital detoxes and restricting caffeine, the struggle persists, and I almost always wake feeling restless and fatigued.

However, a recent addition to my nightly routine has been a total game-changer – the Simba mattress topper. While friends had previously waxed lyrical about how brilliant mattress toppers were, I had never experienced one myself. Now, I can’t imagine my bedtime without it.

Creating a tranquil environment before bedtime is essential for unwinding. My bedroom serves as a sanctuary from the day’s busy-ness, with clutter tidied away and soft lighting setting the mood for relaxation (I love fairy lights and low lamps). I always indulge in calming rituals like playing ambient sounds (my favourite is rain sounds), silencing notifications, and immersing myself in a good book or journaling session. I have an aromatherapy diffuser that fills the air with lavender, complemented by a cosy eye mask to block out any residual light disturbances when it is time for sleep.

Preparing the bed

Attention to detail in bed-making is paramount for a restful night’s sleep. Straightening sheets and fluffing pillows is a daily ritual for me and I never leave the house without making my bed, but the addition of the Simba mattress topper has totally elevated my bedtime experience. Its cloud-like comfort creates a nest-like cocoon that I genuinely can’t wait to sink into. I’m also a big advocate of using silk pillowcases for skin and hair health, which truly complete that luxurious sleep setup.

Prior to using a mattress topper I never found that I could get comfortable – I often used to sleep face down but I’ve been experiencing lower back pain recently which I think has been brought on by my sleeping position.  The mattress topper has really transformed the way I sleep by providing support and pressure relief, and I’ve found myself waking up feeling much more refreshed in the morning.  I also get so hot at night – I have a highly insulated new build house and I sleep with the windows open even in winter so I love the innovative cooling features of the topper and they’ve stopped me waking up in the night feeling uncomfortable.  I also love that it has corner straps to keep it snugly on the bed – you can see from the photos that it’s a perfect fit!

In the journey towards better sleep, I’ve come to realise that it’s a combination of different elements that have enhanced my sleep experience – from my sleep environment, relaxation techniques and commitment to self-care to investing in quality items like a mattress topper.  Whilst I can’t stop my 3 year old from waking in the middle of the night or my dog from taking up half of the mattress, I’ve definitely found that small changes have helped make a significant difference to my sleep experience and how restful my nights are.
