My Autumn 2022 capsule wardrobe inspiration

Is there such a thing as an Autumnaphile? If there is, I think I am one.  As soon as I’m turning over the pages of the calendar to September you can bet I’m already shopping for pumpkin spiced candles and swapping my flip flops for slippers.  To me, there’s no better plan for a Sunday than a chilly, woodland walk to the pub for a roast dinner and a glass of wine, followed by an afternoon cosying under a blanket watching a great movie.  (Though with a 2-year-old in tow, my relaxing, Autumnal Sundays do look a little different now!)

One of my favourite things about Autumn is being able to transition to a new wardrobe.  As much as I love being able to sling on a pair of denim shorts in the morning and spend June to September in sandals, I just feel I was built for ‘fall’ and I’m at my most comfortable in a woolly hat and long coat.  I am trying to embrace a ‘capsule wardrobe’ at the moment which means planning out key pieces that I can wear all season – classics like a camel trench coat, crossbody bag, a woollen jumper and my ‘all year round’ sunglasses, my Ray Ban Clubmasters.  I am still a big fan of a ‘mood board’ and here’s my inspiration for my wardrobe for this season.

Looking through my Autumn wardrobe inspiration, it’s clear to see that a classic pair of understated sunglasses are a staple item that will simply never go out of style.  I am something of a Ray Ban devotee, and these Clubround classics can be found in my bag all year round, whether it’s a straw bag packed for the beach or my work rucksack.  (As an aside, I’ve now decided that a straw bag is an ‘all season’ piece too after seeing the iconic Chloe Marcie basket styled with a contrasting leather trouser or dark denim jeans).  Fashion points aside, I always wear my sunglasses year round anyway as I’m so light sensitive – I always choose polarised Ray Bans as they’re great for driving as they reduce glare.

I also think a pair of tortoiseshell framed sunglasses is a must for Autumn – in fact I think tortoiseshell sunglasses and a camel wool coat are just the perfect combination (especially with the addition of a chunky scarf).  I wanted to get something a little different to my usual style so I went for a round frame with these SmartBuyGlasses Fionn sunglasses* – the SmartBuy Collection are their own range and they’re great quality but really affordable.

Finally, planning my Autumn work wardrobe is another essential task, especially now I’m going into the office usually at least once a week.  I’ve been keeping my eye out for checked blazers, black loafers and roll neck jumpers.  I’ve also invested in a new pair of glasses – I have to wear glasses for computer use and driving at night and since I’m working from home a lot in front of the computer I like having a pair of glasses that make me feel stylish and put together for all my Teams calls!  These are another pair from the SmartBuy Collection – a total bargain at £25, and they go with everything.  What do you think?
