I often joke with friends that one of my many idiosyncracies is that my two favourite things are 1. decluttering my house and getting rid of stuff, and 2. putting together wishlists of things I want to buy, and treating myself to cute new things. What can I say, I have the heart of a minimalist, but capitalism keeps on sucking me right back in…. And this season, more specifically, it’s Autumn fashion that is really testing my resolve, because I just want ALL of the snuggly jackets, cosy boots and ‘acceptable for the school run’ loungewear.
And because I can’t justify buying everything I’m currently lusting after, I decided to embrace another activity dear to my heart – making a ‘moodboard’; very 90s scrapbook era of me, I know. (Also I’ve fallen back in love with Pinterest in a big way, so spending an evening pinning autumnal home and fashion inspiration and dreaming of my next payday purchase is basically my favourite way to spend an evening). Here’s my current wishlist, and some of the items I’m particularly coveting….
Ribbed Leggings
How many pairs of ribbed leggings are too many at this point… because I think I might have them in every colour. These M&S Cord High Waisted Leggings (£17.50) are my current favourite – I have them in navy, bottle green and grey and they go with everything. I’ve been wearing them with baggy jumpers, white trainers and a beanie (very much my go-to casual outfit right now).
Varsity Jumper
I put off the varsity sweatshirt trend for some time, but I’m just such a big fan of a crew neck sweat that I had to finally resist. I bought this New York Jets one from H&M but it’s since sold out – I also love the colour of this one from Pretty Little Thing (£18).
Checked Blazer
I think blazers are such a versatile piece and the one item that’s a staple in both my work and ‘home’ wardrobe – I love wearing them to the office with smart trousers and loafers, or out to dinner with a bodysuit and jeans. I’m loving the oversized, double breasted blazer trend at the moment and this checked blazer from H&M is high on my wishlist. Love the styling of it with a leather skirt and boots.
Camel Trenchcoat
A camel trench never goes out of style and is a staple piece in any A/W capsule wardrobe. A Burberry trench is an item I think I’ll always covet (and probably never own!) so I’m always on the hunt for that classic style without the price tag. This Abercrombie & Fitch one still isn’t cheap, but it looks well-made and as if it would last season after season (and £1750 cheaper than the Burberry!)
Mule Slippers
The Birkenstock clog mules are everywhere this season. I live in my Birkenstock sandals all summer so I love the idea of embracing that comfy style in the form of a mule I can just ‘slip on’ (I’ve also seen people wear them with socks, and honestly, it kind of works!) M&S have yet again come through with the ‘affordable dupe’ but for some reason the nicest colours seem to be size 6 and above (cursing my tiny feet!) Still this grey suede pair (£35) might have to hop in my basket come payday…
