Not only is the new year the perfect time for making travel plans – but after spending five weeks in Australia and coming back to a rather chilly England, I’m already dreaming of warmer climes.
I had a bit of an interesting journey coming back from Australia in the end – my flight was delayed which meant that I missed my connecting flight on to London. This then meant that I was re-routed back through Rome, and although I wasn’t able to do much except for mooch around the airport, it gave me renewed enthusiasm to visit properly as soon as possible. I’ve already made a list of things I’d like to do whilst I’m there – for starters I’d I’d love to soak up a bit of culture by visiting the Teatro dell’Opera for a performance of La Traviata or Don Giovanni. I’ve been told that Rome Opera Tickets are not expensive if you book in advance, so I need to work out when I can go so I can get them booked. Of course it’s also a must to visit the Colosseum, the Vatican, St Peter Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. It all looks so beautiful. And if I wanted to avoid the stress and frustration of delayed, rearranged or uncomfortable flights (and money was no object) then I’d definitely consider chartering a private jet – wouldn’t that be amazing? I’ve heard of several people recommending a Jet Card for this purpose, and if you’re wondering ‘what is a Jet card?’, well, it’s a subscription service that allows you to access a fleet of private aircraft on demand – just imagine.

At the end of June we’re going to Lisbon for four days to celebrate my brother’s 30th birthday. We’re staying in an Air BnB right in the centre of town and I honestly cannot wait. I’m hoping our plans will involve eating a glut of Portuguese custard tarts (apparently the best are at Pasteis De Belem – they make 16,000 tarts a day!) – as well as visiting the Torre De Belem, riding the trams, ambling around the streets of the Alfama District, visiting the Time Out Market and drinking lots of port! I visited Porto a few years ago and absolutely loved it and I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy Lisbon just as much.
I’m also incredibly lucky enough to have been invited to a wedding near Morzine in France. Although Morzine is mostly famous for its ski resorts, there is also a beautiful lake nearby which will be the setting for the wedding – and in the summer it looks absolutely stunning. I could list all of the things I’ll be doing whilst I’m there but I’m mostly just massively excited to get to celebrate with my friend.
As well as all of this European travel I also want to get up to Aberdeen to visit my brother next month. Whilst I’m there he’s also promised to take me to Edinburgh, which is a place I’ve always wanted to visit.

It looks like such a beautiful city and it’s been on my list for the longest time – I’ve already scoped out some awesome bars to go to (cocktails at a speakeasy, singalongs at a piano bar), and obviously I want to visit Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street for shopping and walk up to Arthur’s Seat. How awesome does the City Of The Dead Underground Tour sound too? You get to see the most haunted section of the Underground City (navigating through dark and creepy tunnels…). Count me in!
