Dirty Looks Hair Extensions Review

I have always longed for long hair and never been quite satisfied with my natural hair.  My hair is really thick so I have to get it cut quite regularly or it feels really bouffant and unmanageable.  Even though it gets thicker, especially around the back of my head, it feels like the length doesn’t really change and it’s been shoulder length for what feels like years!  I’ve blogged recently about my difficulties in growing my hair and my attempts to be kinder to it (less heat and more conditioning treatments) but of course it’s not going to grow overnight.  In the meantime, I thought I’d try some clip-in hair extensions.  Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few months you’ll have heard people in the press and blogosphere raving about Dirty Looks, who sell a variety of human hair clip-in extensions.  I went for the 16-18″ HK Full Head hair extensions (£69.99*).  As I wasn’t sure of the shade I needed their team kindly colour matched them for me with a photograph which I was really impressed with – such a helpful service!

When they arrived, three things struck me, firstly, quite how much hair there was – there’s 160g of hair in their 16-18″ extensions and their quad wefts are so thick, full and feel absolutely lovely.  Secondly, the colour match is amazing.  Considering my hair is a mix of when I used to bleach it all over, bits of my natural hair colour coming through and the highlights I had recently I wasn’t sure they’d be able to find a shade that looked natural, but the colour they chose was perfect.

Thirdly, they also have a really genius packaging design in that there’s a section off from the main extensions where one of the extensions is stored.  You can open this section to try the extension for colour match before you open the rest of the extensions (so you can return it if it’s not right).  Luckily I found that it matched perfectly.

I was initially quite concerned that the extensions were all clearly numbered but there didn’t seem to be any explanation as to which numbers go where.  I decided to do a bit of guess work and clipped them in, only managing to get four in and looking in the mirror to find that they didn’t look natural at all; they looked really poker straight at the ends whereas my hair has layers.  Then, this genius decided to look on the website and found that all of the instructions are on there, with loads of tips for how to style them and how to arrange the numbered extensions for a more feathered look.  This time I managed to get all of the extensions in and it looked much more natural.

Even from the back you can’t see the extensions or the clips at all which I was really impressed about.  I used to occasionally clip in some smaller extensions during the day to add some length and once someone told me I had a leaf in my hair because a clip was poking out – cringe! Definitely no clips poking out here.

I haven’t had a chance to try it yet but I think they’ll look lovely curled with a curling iron.  At the moment my hair is still relatively short but I think once it grows a bit more they’ll look even more natural.  In the meantime I’ll definitely be bringing my extensions out for special occasions and tossing my mermaid hair around!

Overall I was super impressed with the service from Dirty Looks, the HK hair extensions are amazing and I think they’re an absolute snip at £69.99.  If you’re not sure, just check out the reviews on the product page, that’s a whole lot of happy customers!
