hush Mother’s Day challenge

When I was contacted about the hush SS14 Mother’s Day outfit challenge, I knew I wanted to enter, not only because there’s the possibility of winning a little treat for my Mum, but also because their clothes are really, really beautiful, and it gives me a legitimate reason to swoon over items on their website.

You may have seen from a recent post of mine, that on Tuesday my Mum fell down the stairs and broke her ankle. Not only is she now dosed up on painkillers and feeling very, very sorry for herself, they also cut off her favourite trousers and her favourite boots in order to treat her in A&E.  I must admit to anxiously asking ‘Which boots?!’ on the phone when she told me, I mean, that would be a major concern of mine! As part of this challenge we were asked to style an outfit from hush‘s wonderful daywear collection for ourselves, and one for our Mums, and Hush will pick their favourite set of outfits and give a £300 voucher as a Mother’s Day present to the lucky blogger’s Mum!  I think my Mum needs a bit of good luck (not to mention a new pair of trousers), so I thought this challenge was right up my street.

If truth be told, my Mum is much more stylish than me, and always looks very glam.  She never wears anything less than a full face of makeup and is guaranteed to put fresh lipstick on even for a trip to Asda. She totally nails ‘casual but chic’, which is why I thought this silk shirt, blazer and cropped cords combo would be the perfect look for her.  I know she’d love those cute ballerinas (and no chance of having to forcibly remove them if any further injuries occur – touch wood!)

You probably all know by know that I am a bit of a casual Cathy, and in addition to that, I own a wardrobe consisting of about 60% items with Breton stripes.  So it was no surprise that this striped dress hopped into my outfit collage, and my basket – ahem.  I think it would look really cute teamed with plimsolls and a classic saddle bag.

Mother’s Day is only in a few weeks away (March 30 for those of you who might need a little reminder!) but if this weather continues I think I have a shot at teaming this beautiful stripey dress with some bare legs.  And if not, then hush have some rather nice leggings and joggers on their site too – I am loving the fact that joggers and trainers are currently in fashion; I can wear my comfiest clothes and label it ‘sports luxe’… (see, casual Cathy right here!)

How does your style differ from your Mum’s? What would you pick out if you were styling an outfit for your Mum?
