Dressing for winter

Although I love winter dressing for the ability to cover pasty skin and Christmas weight under several layers, I sometimes find it hard to dress for the chillier temperatures and still look ‘chic’.  I tend to motion towards jeans, chunky cardigans, cosy boots and big comfy coats.  I have a shearling lined parka from ASOS that feels a bit like wandering around inside an Ugg boot but probably isn’t netting me any style points.  I have long suspected that the key to smart but comfortable dressing in the winter is finding the perfect coat – a coat with an impeccable fit and the ability to concurrently smarten up a par of jeans and hold its own over a black dress at dinner.  And in walked the Reiss Charise double-breasted coat, with its leather detailing and beautiful cut.  It manages to keep me warm whilst still nipping in at the right places and holding its shape, which is no mean feat.  Utterly my new favourite wardrobe addition….

Unfortunately I think the coat has sold out since I bought it, but there are lots of other beautiful coats and jackets on the Reiss website and lots of bargains to be had in their sale.  What do you think of my new leopard wedges? I snapped them up in the M&S sale – I’d been eyeing them up when they were full price so I was pleased I managed to hunt them down at my local store.  They seem to be sold out now too but there are a lot of leopard print wedges around at the moment, animal print seems to be a trend that’s not disappearing any time soon.  They are ridiculously comfy for a relatively high wedge – the ‘insolia’ sole that M&S use is amazing as it gives you really good support – I wore these on our jaunt to Marlborough this weekend and they fared fine up cobbled streets and hills!

As much as I have worn this coat every day since I got it I think it may have to be retired for a few days this week as we have a little jaunt to Kosice in Slovakia for a couple of days and the temperatures are looking pretty chilly with sleet and snow forecast! I am really looking forward to exploring a new city, though slightly nervous at the language barrier.  Can’t wait to take lots of photos and blog about it though – one of my goals this year is to do more travelling and exploring so hopefully there will be a few new countries and cities ticked off my list in 2014!
