Snoods and wild boars

This week has been a proud week for my family as on Thursday my brother was offered his first job since qualifying for his licence to work as a helicopter engineer.  In order for us all to celebrate together he surprised my parents by driving the five hour journey back from Leeds and turning up on their doorstep on Friday.  I never miss out on an opportunity for our family to all be together so yesterday morning I packed Bodhi into the car and drove over to their house near Portsmouth.  Bodhi never fails to be an entertaining travelling companion and began the journey by jumping around the car and setting off the alarm whilst I was in the Post Office, and then barking furiously at any horses we passed in the road (which, as I live in the New Forest, is a lot).

I stupidly forgot my coat, which meant I got to pinch my Mum’s Crew coat for our trip out to lunch (which was quite fortuitous really as I love it and am always trying to convince her to give it to me!) I also put on my new ASOS snood, which is so cosy, I didn’t take it off all day.  The trousers are also from my recent ASOS order but after wearing them for the day they’ve really loosened up and are too big, I wish I’d returned them but it’s too late now I suppose.

We went out for lunch at a local pub/restaurant (part of the Vintage Inns chain if you’re interested) and it was looking so lovely all dressed up for Christmas with the scent of mulled cider wafting through the pub.  I couldn’t resist a mulled cider after how good it smelled and it came out steaming away in a warm glass.  I also ordered a wild boar and chorizo burger (my brother’s is in the photo, he added stilton) and we toasted to my brother’s new job and filled our bellies with good food.

My Dad was gifted a Fortnum and Mason hamper from his firm for Christmas so when we got back home we kindly helped him get started on it by cracking open the champagne truffles.  I snuggled under a blanket on the sofa and we all watched Sherlock Holmes (with some of us fitting in some much needed post-lunch snoozes!)

After all that laziness we needed to blow away the cobwebs so we took Bodhi for a walk along the beach.  It was a beautiful sunset and a perfect end to a perfect day.
