Four days in Jersey

On Wednesday we set sail for Jersey on the ferry from Poole for a four day break we bought through Groupon Getaways.  We were originally supposed to be going on the Tuesday but the crossing was cancelled due to the bad weather, so we were lucky to be able to push it back a day and come back yesterday instead.  However, the crossings were so rough in both directions, you couldn't even get up from your seat at most points or you would have ended up on the other side of the ferry! I did not enjoy that! I was really worried as the weather forecast for the four days was absolutely terrible but we were actually really lucky and apart from a few scattered showers there were blue skies every day.

We stayed in a hotel in St Helier (you can see the view from our hotel room in the first photo); the hotel was great and had three restaurants, two bars and a swimming pool. We did a lot of swimming and relaxing in the sauna and the steam room! We also had a hire car as part of the package and spent the rest of our time exploring the island, stopping for lunch and a glass of wine and taking photos.  It's only 46 square miles in size so we managed to drive round the whole coastline of the island, which is so beautiful - all rocky beaches, secluded bays and quaint harbours.  There's a much slower pace of life over there - no big supermarkets or supermarket chains, with a produce and fish market in St Helier instead, all the shops close on Sundays and there's lots of little tea rooms for whiling away an afternoon with a cream tea.

We had such a lovely time and I'd definitely go again - there wasn't enough time to eat in all the beachfront cafes and restaurants I wanted to and I'd love to go in the summer to be able to spend more time on the beach, as even though it was lovely and sunny it was also pretty cold! Have you ever been to Jersey or the Channel Islands?

  2. Jersey looks lovely! My auntie's been a few times and loved it but I've never really thought it was my kinda place, but the sounds of beaches, cream teas and the quiet pace of life definitely appeals to me (: Just goes to show you don't have to travel absolutely miles to find a nice holiday spot. x

  4. Jersey is pretty! I didn't know there was a place in the UK named that, but it makes sense since there's a state here in the US called New Jersey. lol

Glad you had a great time!

  9. I would love to live in a place without chains and supermarkets. Much as Brighton is individual and full of Independent traders, a sainsburies or tescos pops up in every vacant retail space at the blink of an eye. very depressing.
It looks lovely, I have added it to the mini-moon destination list!

  10. Hi Rosie, I'm from Guernsey (guernsey people will always say its better than Jersey! but Jersey is great too!) Did you get to go the Zoo? its a really good one! By the way did you not spot the three Waitrose shops that opened in Jersey last year?! Loving the blog as always.

  11. One of my friends from uni that I lived with last year is from Jersey, I went to stay a year or so ago with her in September. It's such a beautiful place isn't it? I was forever baffled by the fact it's pretty much England.. like they have the same TV channels and you can use English money, I thought it was crazy.. but I am a bit of a simple mind/easily pleased!
Looks like you had a lovely time! xx

  15. Oh it looks beautiful! Nice to hear you've had a good experience with Groupon. I tried it out twice and had to get a refund both times so have lost interest now! Jersey looks gorgeous! I went once when I was smaller and I remember liking it - I remember the plane ride the most - it was only about 20 mins and I felt like we were getting off as soon as we sat down! Glad you got home safe on the boat - I'd have been well scared if it was super choppy!
